Wahba Crater, Saudi Arabia

In Saudi Arabia, outside the city of Jeddah on the Jeddah – Riyadh road is a huge crater called the Wahba Crater.  It is h u g e !! It is 2.5 kms in diameter and 250 meters deep.  The walls to this crater are pretty much sheer cliffs so you have be careful when you hike down there.  Nidal, a Saudi Native, is a photographer that has some nice photographs of this crater on his blog.  Have a look at them here. Now there is some speculation about how this crater was formed.  Some say it is a meteorite impact crater whilst others say it is the effect of underground volcano actions and escaping lava exploding in contact with sea water, yes this was ll under the ocean at one time. However it was made, it is very impressive.  The trek down to the crater floor is hazardous and hard work, but not difficult.  You should definitely have plenty of water, wear long sleeved clothing and wear a hat !! The Sun newspaper asked readers to “shop a moron” on a front page emblazoned with CCTV images of alleged rioters.
“This unrest isn’t about ‘wider social issues’ or poverty,” wrote youth and community worker Shaun Bailey, a former parliamentary candidate for the ruling Conservative party, in the paper.
“It is about robbery. And people’s businesses, homes and livelihoods are being destroyed in the process.”

Common sense and tits, what more can you ask for from a newspaper !!!

Most people like to splash around in the water.  It’s great fun.  Swimming is both fun and provides good exercise.  If you are a little more serious about swimming as a form of exercise then you probably do many lengths of your swimming pool.  If you’re anything like me it doesn’t take long before tiredness kicks in and you loose count of the number of ‘laps’ and how long you’ve been swimming.  Are you better than your average time, are you slow today or is this the day Phelps better start looking out !!
